Colt Park Hosts Inaugural Greater Hartford Women’s Softball Tournament

HARTFORD, Conn. — Colt Park was filled with the sounds of cracking bats, cheering crowds, and community ambition today as the Greater Hartford Women’s Softball League (GHWSL) hosted its 1st Annual Community Tournament.

The free, family-friendly event kicked off at 10:00 AM under clear September skies on Fields 7 and 8, bringing together players of all skill levels, local families, and softball enthusiasts for a day dedicated to sportsmanship and expanding access to athletics in the capital city.

While the tournament action officially got underway at 12:00 PM, the primary goal of the day extends far beyond the scoreboard. Organizers are using the inaugural tournament as a launching pad to build a broader, more inclusive baseball and softball footprint throughout Greater Hartford.

"We want to build something bigger," tournament organizers shared. "This event is about showing what’s possible when the community comes together to support local athletics."

A central focus of the day's festivities is establishing a new pipeline for youth athletes. Throughout the event, league organizers operated active registration and interest booths aimed at two key initiatives:

• GHWSL League Registration: Welcoming adult women of all experience levels—from complete beginners to seasoned players—to join the upcoming adult league season.

• Girls’ Softball Little League Interest List: Gathering community demand to launch a dedicated local Little League program for girls ages 9 and up.

League leaders emphasized that establishing a strong showing of community interest is the critical first step toward securing the resources, field access, and organizational backing needed to launch the youth league.

"The more interest we receive today, the closer we get to building a league where young girls have a place to play, learn, grow, and belong," organizers stated, reiterating that no prior experience is required for new players looking to get involved.
