Team History & Name Origin

The franchise traces its roots back to the New Britain Rock Cats before relocating to Hartford and rebranding for the 2016 season. The unique moniker "Yard Goats" was selected through a community name-the-team contest.
Rather than referring to the animal directly, the name honors Hartford’s rich rail history—a "yard goat" is railroad slang for the terminal switching engines that shuttle train cars around a rail yard.

Home Field: Dunkin' Park

Opened in 2017, Dunkin' Park (formerly Dunkin' Donuts Park) is a state-of-the-art, 6,100-seat stadium situated in Downtown Hartford. Widely recognized as one of the premier minor league venues in North America, the ballpark features:
  • Award-Winning Fan Experience: Consistently voted Best Double-A Ballpark by Ballpark Digest.
  • Local Culinary Options: Famous for creative stadium eats, local craft beers, and specialty concessions.
  • Family Entertainment: Interactive play zones, theme nights, post-game fireworks, and appearances by mascots Chompers and Chew Chew.

Player Development & Community Impact

As the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, Dunkin' Park serves as a crucial launching pad for top prospects making their way to Major League Baseball. Beyond the diamond, the Yard Goats organization actively supports the Greater Hartford community through youth baseball clinics, charitable foundations, educational programs, and local economic development initiatives.
