The Jason Candle Era

Jason Candle took over as the 33rd head football coach in UConn history after signing a six-year deal through the 2031 season. Candle joined the Huskies following a highly successful 10-year run as the head coach at Toledo, where he became the winningest coach in Rocket history with 81 victories, captured two Mid-American Conference (MAC) championships, and earned two MAC Coach of the Year honors.
Known for his high-powered offenses, elite recruiting, and player development, Candle brings a strong background of success to Storrs:
  • Proven Track Record: At Toledo, Candle never had a losing season in ten years as head coach, earning seven bowl berths and leading top-tier MAC recruiting classes.
  • NFL Talent Pipeline: He has developed numerous NFL players—most notably 2024 first-round selection Quinyon Mitchell, as well as NFL standouts Kareem Hunt and Diontae Johnson.

UConn football dates back to 1896, operating at lower division levels for over a century before completing a full transition to the Division I FBS level in 2002.
