LAKEVILLE, CT. — The roar of high-performance engines will give way to the stirring drone of bagpipes and the rhythmic thud of cabers hitting the turf as the Litchfield Hills Highland Games return to historic Lime Rock Park. Scheduled for Sunday, September 27, 2026, the daylong cultural festival will transform the renowned motor racing circuit into an epicenter of Scottish heritage, athletic competition, and highland tradition.
Organized as part of Lime Rock Park’s annual Community Events series, the gathering will merge centuries-old Gaelic heritage with the picturesque rolling landscape of Litchfield County.

Heavy Athletics and Spectator Thrills to Take Center Stage

At the heart of the upcoming festival will be the Heavy Athletics competition, where men and women will don traditional kilts to test their strength across classic field events:
  • Caber Toss: Competitors will attempt to flip full-length wooden logs, aiming for a vertical end-over-end turn and a perfect 12 o'clock landing.
  • Hammer Throw & Sheaf Toss: Athletes will hurl weighted metal implements and burlap bags for distance and height over elevated crossbars.
  • Interactive Challenges: Spectators will have opportunities to step into the action through crowd favorites, including the quirky Faux Haggis Toss, the Kilted Mile, and guided whisky sampling sessions.
Beyond the athletic grounds, the park's infield will feature continuous entertainment. Pipe bands will fill the surrounding valley with traditional Scottish marches, complemented by live Celtic folk music on the main stage.

Motors, Tartans, and Tradition: A Unique Connection

The pairing of Highland Games with Lime Rock Park honors a deep connection to Scottish motorsport legacy. The circuit maintains a historic tie to racing icon Jim Clark, the two-time Scottish Formula One World Champion. Festival organizers will highlight the official Lime Rock Park Tartan—custom-designed by ScotlandShop using Lime Rock's primary red, white, and black branding alongside Clark's historic family sett.
