HARTFORD, CT — Hartford Athletic’s late-summer surge shows no signs of slowing down.

Continuing a dominant run across both league and cup play, Hartford locked down a emphatic 3-1 victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Tampa Bay Rowdies in front of a raucous crowd at Trinity Health Stadium on Saturday night.

With the win, Hartford improves to 8-5-10 in USL Championship action, lifting the squad into 5th place in the Eastern Conference standings as playoff position battles intensify. Despite the setback, Tampa Bay (14-4-6) retains top spot in the East.

How It Happened

Hartford dictated the tempo from the opening whistle, pressing high and earning the match’s first corner kick in the 13th minute. The early pressure paid off in the 26th minute when Sadat Anaku set up Michael Adedokun, who slotted home his first goal in a Hartford uniform to break the deadlock and send the home supporters into a frenzy.

Anaku wasn't done making his mark on the match. Early in the second half, Michee Ngalina delivered a beautifully weighted ball into path, allowing Anaku to bury his finish and double Hartford’s advantage.

The conference leaders refused to go down without a fight, however. In the 79th minute, Tampa Bay’s Laurence Wyke cut the deficit in half with a stunning screamer from well outside the box. The Rowdies pushed hard for an equalizer, threatening again on an 84th-minute corner kick, but the header flew wide of the post.

Ngalina slammed the door shut on any comeback hopes in the 88th minute, calmly stepping up to the penalty spot and converting the spot-kick to seal the 3-1 triumph.

Hartford Athletic will look to keep the streak alive as they remain at Trinity Health Stadium to host Sporting JAX on Wednesday, September 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET.
