Debuts Explosive Cover of The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again"
Legendary hard rockers celebrate their 40th anniversary with a home-state frontman, a powerhouse new single produced by Nick Raskulinecz, and an extensive run of live dates.
A massive new chapter has officially begun for Skid Row. Following more than two years away from the stage and an exhaustive worldwide audition process, the multi-platinum heavy metal outfit has unveiled Justin Sargent as their new lead vocalist. Arriving right as the band commemorates 40 years of rock 'n' roll history, the announcement marks a homecoming of sorts: after scouring the globe, Skid Row discovered their new voice right in their home state of New Jersey.
Sargent first landed on the band’s radar last year, immediately impressing the veteran rockers with his soaring range, effortless command of the stage, and authentic feel for the catalog. Months of studio sessions, rehearsals, and shared time on the road followed, cementing the fact that the group had found an enduring partner.
"Honestly, for me, it felt like he had been here from the beginning as soon as he walked in the room," says bassist Rachel Bolan. "He was one of us. A lifer. Then he sang with so much power and conviction, it blew me away. It was amazing."
Guitarist Snake Sabo echoes that sentiment: "We were so fortunate to receive so many audition submissions from singers wanting to front the band. We wanna thank everyone for their time and effort. There are some truly amazing singers out there! But I think that the moment Justin walked in the door we all kind of knew he was the guy. Everything about him; his voice, his attitude, his demeanor, it all just fit. We can't wait to hit the ground running and get back to doing what we love to do."
For Sargent, stepping up to the mic carries both deep reverence and raw fire. "I've been singing Skid Row songs for years, but never imagined I'd actually be joining the band!" Sargent says. "It's an incredible honor to be part of something with such a legendary history. The chemistry and energy we’ve found together over the past several months has been amazing.I have tremendous respect for the band’s legacy, but I’m even more excited about what lies ahead. I can’t wait to get out there, connect with the fans, and give them everything I've got. Let's go!"
The decision concludes a search that reached international proportions earlier this year when the band teamed up with music retailer Sweetwater to review audition tapes from across the world. The band expressed deep gratitude to the global community of musicians and fans who took part in the journey.
The Anthem: "Won't Get Fooled Again"
To kick off the new era, Skid Row has dropped an adrenaline-charged rendition of The Who’s landmark classic, "Won't Get Fooled Again," alongside an official music video.
The track reunites the group with Grammy-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains,Halestorm), who previously helmed their acclaimed 2022 album, The Gang's All Here. Injecting their trademark twin-guitar punch and high-octane rhythms into the timeless arrangement, the track serves as both a trial by fire for Sargent and an unmistakable mission statement.
"'Won't Get Fooled Again' is one of those songs that no matter how many times you hear it on the radio you always turn it up and listen," says guitarist Scotti Hill. "Anything by The Who is top shelf in my book, but 'Won’t Get Fooled Again' is an anthem of generations."
Drummer Rob Hammersmith adds: "'Won't Get Fooled Again' isn't just about making noise — it's about setting a standard and making a statement: two rock 'n' roll elements The Who helped write the book on. Standing on the shoulders of these giants is the ultimate launchpad to signal a loud, unapologetic new era for us!"
The accompanying visual was helmed by acclaimed director Dale "Rage" Resteghini (Five Finger Death Punch, Guns N' Roses, Alter Bridge), capturing the group's raw stage dynamic and instant chemistry in vivid, high-impact style.
