HARTFORD, CT — For the second time with Hartford Athletic and the fourth time in his career, General Manager and Head Coach Brendan Burke has been named the United Soccer League (USL) Championship Coach of the Month for September.
Burke’s selection follows an impressive September run in which Athletic posted a 3-0-3 (W-L-D) record across league play.
Unbeaten Streak Reaches Nine Matches
Throughout September, Hartford Athletic extended its overall USL Championship unbeaten streak to nine consecutive matches. The stellar stretch opened with a statement 2-1 victory on the road over the Charleston Battery, followed later in the month by a decisive 3-1 home win over the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Trinity Health Stadium.
Burke’s side demonstrated consistent attacking output, scoring at least one goal in every match and outscoring opponents by a combined 11-6 margin across the six fixtures.
Building for the Long Term
Despite the individual accolade, Burke highlighted the collective effort of his squad while keeping the club's long-term vision in focus.
"Our team is performing at a high level right now. Without trophies, it is difficult to celebrate moments and recognition like this, but they are still important. We are building a big club here, but our project is still in its infancy in the big picture," said Burke."Our players are our greatest resource in sports. They are the ones who make the biggest sacrifices to achieve success, and our players in Hartford deserve to be celebrated even in a difficult moment like this one for how far they have moved the needle here in the past few years."
Up Next for Athletic
Hartford Athletic will look to build on their momentum as they hit the road to face Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in a USL Championship clash on Saturday, October 10th.
