OXFORD, OH — Brady Stidham drilled a 33-yard field goal with 1:58 remaining in the fourth quarter to cap off a 14-point comeback, lifting Miami (OH) to a 24-21 victory over the UConn Huskies on Saturday afternoon at Fred C. Yager Stadium.
UConn (2-2) took command early, storming out to a 14-0 lead in the opening quarter before the RedHawks (2-2) stormed back behind an explosive air attack led by quarterback David McComb.
Fast Start for the Huskies
The Huskies set the tone on the game's opening possession, putting together an 8-play, 75-yard drive. Quarterback Kalieb Osborne capped the drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Javon Brown to take a quick 7-0 lead.
After the UConn defense forced a three-and-out, the offense went back to work. Osborne broke free on a 38-yard touchdown scamper to extend the Huskies' lead to 14-0 with 6:23 left in the first quarter.
Osborne finished as UConn's top performer on the day, rushing for a team-high 84 yards and a score on 13 carries while completing 17-of-32 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown.
RedHawks Counter Before Halftime
Miami (OH) found its rhythm midway through the second quarter. McComb orchestrated an 8-play, 90-yard drive, finishing it himself with a 10-yard rushing touchdown to pull the RedHawks within 14-7.
With under two minutes remaining in the half, McComb struck again on a single play, connecting with tight end Brendan Loftus for a 57-yard touchdown to tie the contest at 14-14 heading into the locker room. McComb posted a big statistical day, throwing for 312 yards and two touchdowns on 19-of-29 passing.
Tight Second Half Ends in Heartbreak
Miami took its first lead of the day late in the third quarter when McComb found Scoop Smith for an 11-yard touchdown pass.
UConn answered immediately. On the ensuing drive, Osborne connected with Shamar Porter on a 53-yard deep shot down to the Miami 10-yard line. Running back Cyncir Bowers punched it in from 1 yard out to tie the game at 21-21 with 0:49 left in the third quarter.

The game turned in the fourth quarter following a costly interception off Osborne thrown to Miami defensive back CJ Young at the UConn 43-yard line. Miami capitalized with an 11-play, 28-yard drive that consumed nearly seven minutes, setting up Stidham’s go-ahead 33-yard field goal.
UConn’s final comeback attempt fell short when Osborne’s fourth-and-10 pass from the Miami 38-yard line fell incomplete with 17 seconds left on the clock.

UConn safety Hayden Pegg led all tacklers with 8 total stops, while linebackers Braedyn Moore and K'Von Sherman anchored a defensive effort that held Miami to just 89 total rushing yards. However, Miami's 325 passing yards and a 2-to-0 turnover differential proved to be the difference maker.
